Abstract

In February 2019, the prices of goods / services for the basic needs of the people in Banten in general have decreased significantly. This can be seen from the almost no change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from January to February which is still at the value of 143.70 or there is no significant change in the index (deflation) by 0.00 percent.
However, when viewed by expenditure group, there were several increases and decreases in the index, in which four out of seven expenditure groups experienced an increase in index, namely: housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel increased by 0.38 percent, food groups finished , beverages, cigarettes and tobacco rose by 0.37 percent, the clothing group rose by 0.30 percent, the transportation, communication and financial services group rose by 0.23 percent, while the education, recreation and sports group decreased by -0.02 percent, the health group experienced a decrease of -0.12 percent and the foodstuffs group experienced a decrease in the index in February by -0.95 percent.
Commodities which predominantly contributed to deflation in February were broiler eggs, broiler meat, shallots, red chili and gasoline, while inflation in February was contributed by home rental, air transportation, rice, spinach and ketoprak commodities.
The inflation rate for the calendar year was recorded at 0.35 percent, while "Year on Year" inflation (February 2019 CPI against February 2018) was recorded at 3.30 percent.
