Abstract

In May 2019, the prices of goods / services for the basic needs of the people in Banten generally increased. This can be seen from the change in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) from 144.48 in April to 145.18 in May or a change in the index (inflation) of 0.49 percent.
Four of the seven existing expenditure groups experienced an increase in index, namely: foodstuffs experienced an increase in index of 1.87 percent, processed foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco by 0.27 percent, housing, water, electricity , gas and fuel rose by 0.10 percent, the transportation, communication and financial services group rose by 0.04 percent, while the education, recreation and sports group declined by -0.04 percent and the clothing and health groups experienced a decrease of -0.05 percent.
Commodities which predominantly contributed to inflation in May were red chillies, chicken meat, garlic, oranges, chicken eggs and milk fish / sponge.
The inflation rate for the calendar year was recorded at 1.38 percent, while "Year on Year" inflation (May 2019 CPI against May 2018) was recorded at 3.54 percent.
